Built in the former St. Teresa’s Church, the city Concert Hall is situated in Piazzetta Dettori in Marina quarter. The construction of the Church was started in the 17th century and completed in 1691, as you can read in the memorial tablet on its façade.
In the first postwar years, this building began to house concerts and cultural events, till it was permanently turned into a Concert Hall in the last years of the 1980s.
You can easily get to the Church from the port or from Via Manno by a flight of steps leading to Piazzetta Dettori.
After the renovations, that concentrated between the 1970s and the 1980s, one can no longer see the framework of the former single nave Church, which opened out to three chapels on each side. The original façade is still there, but there is a little theatre inside.
Since 2009 the building has been the seat of the of the city Drama School, one of the most important ones in Italy. Marina’s Concert Hall represents an interesting cultural and art space for the people who live in Cagliari.
